HAPPY TRAILS - ABOUT US
Beate und Rudy
Ever since 1978, when I first set foot on American soil as a young soldier, I have been fascinated by the North American continent, its people, its landscapes, and its history. Since then, I have traveled throughout the United States—first on my own, and later with my wife Beate and our children. From megacities to remote canyons, from tourist attractions to deserted areas. We learned a lot about the Native Americans, then the Spanish, the settlers, miners, and cowboys, the flood of immigrants in the 1800s, and yes, also the undocumented immigrants. Since my retirement from the German Air Force on July 31, 2015, in El Paso, TX, we’ve been roaming across North America in our ALFA motorhome—turning miles into memories and highways into home. More than 130,000 miles later, we’ve set foot in every U.S. state (yes, even Hawaii—though that one required wings instead of wheels!) and called 334 different places our home along the way.
What started as a journey has become a way of life—one we’re still loving every single day.
And we’ve never traveled alone. Our loyal German Shepherds have always been part of the adventure—first Noah, and since 2022, our beloved Henna, who now proudly rides shotgun.
Three souls, 27 square meters, and endless horizons—turns out, that’s more than enough.
Over the years, we’ve found our rhythm: winters (November through March) spent soaking up the sun in Yuma with our dear friends Susan and Dale Prichard, and summers nestled in the cool beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota at our beloved CUSTERMOUNTAIN campground.
Wherever the road leads next, we’re ready.
